Worcester Chamber Music Society Rolls Out April Concert Series

The lush romantic world of Brahms lieder is contrasted by the elegant craft of Walter Piston’s Flute Quintet, composed in Belmont, MA in 1942. The concert concludes with one of the crowning jewels of chamber music – Mozart’s String Quintet in C major.
The performance of Brahms Two Songs, Op. 71, will feature Maria Ferrante, soprano; Piston's Quintet for Flute and Strings will feature Tracy Kraus on flute; and Mozart's String Quintet in C, will feature Krista Buckland Reisner and Rohan Gregory, violins; Peter Sulski and Mark Berger, violas; and Joshua Gordon, cello.
"The program features flute, soprano (breath) and strings (bow), hence the title. The program is really a celebration of song, lyricism and virtuosity," says Tracy Kraus, Executive Director of the Worcester Chamber Music Society and flute player.
Each concert will begin, as usual with Worcester Chamber Music Society concerts, with an informal conversation about the music.
"Our concerts are fun and interactive. Our musicians are warm and engaging, drawing audiences into the musical experience. We have created a fantastic community of supporters who return again and again because of the unique concert experience we create," says Kraus.
This concert series falls perfectly in line with the greater mission of the society, adds Kraus.
"We seek to perform music that is well known and loved as well as other great chamber music pieces that may not be as familiar. Educating our audiences is an important part of what we do."
Worcester County audiences of all stripes, both laymen and fans of the arts, are welcome and encouraged to attend.
"Our primary audience is the Central Massachusetts area. We perform in the City of Worcester as well as smaller towns throughout the region. Our concerts in Harvard draw from the North Central Mass area and our Grafton concerts draw from the South Central Mass. area. We seek to perform in towns that generally support the arts," Kraus remarks.
"We are incredibly fortunate to have developed a deep and loyal following. Our reach expands with each and every concert we perform. We experience great joy in knowing that our music
touches the lives of our audiences in a meaningful way."
Hailed as a group with style, imagination and chops, the Worcester Chamber Music Society is a musical ensemble founded locally, performing locally, and intimately engaged with Worcester County audiences. WCMS seeks to share the rich tradition of chamber music with long-time followers and to introduce new audiences to the music through financially and geographically accessible concerts, outreach, and educational programs.
